"Chances are the fights will not be not entirely serious, somewhere between Mark Spitz's million-dollar return deal and Björn Borg's wooden racquet trolling."
Just to add something to the prescience of this statement, for those who don't know already - Tyson was on AEW PPV and TV (it's a newish pro-wrestling company) a few weeks ago, with the seeming intent to have him be involved in a match in the future. And no one in the sports media mentioned it, or if they did were not negative about it, which most likely says more about sports media feelings about wrestling and/or the typical fan of american pro-wrestling than it does about Tyson?
(sorry to bring up wrestling in a real sports piece, but seemed relevant)
A very good take! Thank you for saying it out loud. Nostaglia and time unfortunately often makes us look past some really serious crimes!
Great piece!
